Explore experimental and contemporary printmaking techniques using viscosity layering of inks and transfer
imagery. Viscosity is the flowability of a liquid, for example, molasses flows slower and thicker than melted butter. In viscosity inking, spontaneous painting and drawing approaches are applied to flat or textured plates using modified inks. Viscous (thicker) ink is repelled by oily (buttery soft) ink and jumps onto the roller or brayer! This magical image can be transferred to other plates or rolled onto a previous print, or re-rolled onto a single plate, and passed through the press once only as with regular monotypes. The possibilities are endless and provocative. Glistening layers of radiant oil ink create truly unique images with depth, mystery, veils of memory and possibilities. Beginners will be rewarded with magical surprises.
Note: Clean-up will be with vegetable oil or rubbing alcohol or Simple Green, no harsh solvents.
Lab fee includes inks and basic supplies.
